As members of Petra Lutheran Church we desire to serve all people in God’s world with the gospel of Jesus Christ on the basis of the Holy Scriptures. Members proclaim the law and the gospel; to lead sinners to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, to strengthen believers in faith and sanctification through the means of grace, and to equip believers as disciples, stewards and witnesses for sharing the gospel of Jesus with our fellow men.
“God is love” and His love ever moves Him to bless the members of His Church with innumerable physical and spiritual gifts. In return for these blessings, we can do nothing less than to love Him with all our heart and to show that love with the works that we do.
Members of Petra acknowledge the giving of such expressions as both a privilege and a responsibility. Some of the privileges and responsibilities include:
-
Receiving the Word of God.
-
Providing and promoting opportunities for Christian education.
-
Bring up our children in the training and instruction of the Lord.
-
Accepting the two Sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion which are means that our Lord uses to bring His grace to us.
-
Accept being the managers over a certain portion of His estate by continually remembering that all our property, time, and talents really belong to God and shall be devoted to that which the congregation has made its concern, not omitting the work of the synod.
-
Leading a Christian life, living righteously and not in obvious acts of a sinful nature.
-
Refusing to hold membership in any organization whose teachings and practices conflict with the Word of God.
